An odd thing about human nature is how we all have the desire to feel important. What I find is, sometimes this manifests itself in very strange ways. One of the ways to feel important is by telling the world how busy you supposedly are, and I can tell you from experience that it can be harmful.
At one point I was in college, had a full time job, a side business and still wanted to go out and party. I find it foolish now but at the time it was a “badge of honor” of sorts to be so busy. I always had a million things to do but nothing was really moving forward. One day I had to come to terms with myself, asking:
“Is it more important to have it appear that I was ‘grinding’ or to actually make some progress?”
“Is it better for my desire to feel significant come from my results or from my sweat?”
“Long term, is this lifestyle sustainable?”
My goal isn’t to condone school, having a job, partying or owning a business so I’m not going to say which, but I ended up mostly dropping 2 of the 4 things I was doing and then my results exploded. What I found was, like it or not there are only so many hours in a day. Also, we can only get good at so many things at once.
In closing, I could care less about who you are or your level of drive. At some point you are going to want to relax for a bit. Focusing on productivity over just being busy can grant you a mostly full life with time to relax and have fun.
At the end of the day you will do what you wish but please remember these words.
